Family Hubs

What is a family hub?

A family hub is a place where children, young people and their families can go when in need of help and support. The people working in the family hub will work in partnership with you and your community. They will help you find and get help from different services in the area and will be able to give you information, advice and support.

Who can access a family hub?

There will be a range of services available. Some will be available only to those who have the greatest needs but there will also be services available to any family, child or young person who needs them (for example baby health clinics and adult education classes).

Examples of services offered

  • Support for young people aged 11 to 19 (targeted youth support work)
  • Family support which may be offered within the home
  • Support to children with special educational needs and their families
  • A range of child and family health activities including baby wellbeing clinic and C-Card distribution points
  • Parenting support
  • Support with managing finances and getting back into work or training

How do I get help from a family hub?

Getting help from a family hub is simple. You can walk in during opening times which will be widely publicised, you can telephone, or a professional person can refer you. Wherever you live in the city, you will be able to get help from one of our eight family hubs. If you click on here (https://www.coventry.gov.uk/familyhubs) and enter your post code, you will find your nearest hub.

The Coventry Children’s Boot Fund

The Coventry Children’s Boot Fund is a Coventry based charity which provides school shoes for families in their time of need. No child should be made to feel different because their circumstances mean they don’t have a well-fitting pair of shoes to wear to school. The damage to their self-esteem and the potential to miss out on education can affect their life chances.

Parents or guardians who find themselves in need of help may apply for assistance from the Children’s Boot Fund to purchase a pair of school schools for their child. Successful applications are issued with a voucher which can be exchanged for a pair of good quality, properly fitted shoes suitable for school.

How to apply

To apply please collect an application form from the school Pastoral Team and return the completed form to school. The application will be signed by the Headteacher and is then sent by the school to the Charity. Applications can be made during February, May and September, any applications made after these months will be saved until the following collection month.

Who qualifies?

Your child must be of school age, and a regular attendee at a Coventry school. Normally only one child per family is granted a voucher within a twelve-month period, but exceptions for families in difficult circumstances can be made and applications for twins are usually each given shoes.

Coventry Foodbank

We know that anyone can find themselves at crisis point for a number of different reasons. If you feel you are struggling to put food on the table, we will issue you with a foodbank voucher. We can also provide long term support if needed to help address some of the issues behind the reasons for your crisis.

We will take some basic details from you to complete the voucher. This will help us to identify the cause of your crisis and offer practical guidance.

Once you have been issued with a voucher, you can exchange this for a minimum of three days of emergency food at your nearest foodbank centre.

To find out more information, please speak to a member of the Pastoral Team.
